Laser Handgun™
|
The TASER® is not a "handgun" as it is not classified as a firearm by the federal government.
Therefore a federal firearms permit is not required to own or carry a TASER.
It is legal for civilians in all states except HI, MA, MI, NJ, NY, RI and WI.
A TASER is an electroshock weapon that uses electrical current to disrupt voluntary control of muscles
effecting "neuromuscular incapacitation" utilizing "Electro-Muscular Disruption (EMD) technology".
Someone struck by a TASER experiences stimulation of his or her sensory nerves and motor nerves,
resulting in strong involuntary muscle contractions. TASER devices do not rely only on pain compliance,
and are thus preferred by law enforcement over other electronic control weapons.
At the present time, there are two main police models, the M26™ and X26™.
Consumer models, X26C™, M18™, M18L™ and C2™ have a 15 foot range and come with various accessories, including a laser sight.
Civilian TASER weapons fire 50,000 Volts of stopping power from 15 feet away with laser sight accuracy.
